The film begins with an older gentleman, played by Vincent Price, narrating the story of Edward, a unfinished creation of a mad scientist who dies before he can complete Edward's hands. The scientist's assistant, played by Edward's creator, completes Edward's hands with scissors. When the scientist dies, Edward is left alone in the mansion, where he remains for years.
