The increasing popularity of online learning environments has led to a growing need for strategies that enhance student engagement. Gamification, the use of game design elements in non-game contexts, has emerged as a promising approach. This study explores the impact of gamification on student engagement in online learning environments. A survey of 100 students and 5 in-depth interviews were conducted to gather data. The results suggest that gamification can have a positive effect on student engagement, particularly in terms of motivation and participation. However, the findings also highlight the importance of careful design and implementation to avoid negative consequences.
