Wale's parents, Oye and Morayo Akintimehin, are Nigerian immigrants who moved to the United States in the early 1980s. Growing up in the Queens borough of New York City, Wale was exposed to a diverse cultural heritage that would later influence his music. He spent his early years in Queens and later moved to Maryland with his family.
